Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Will the fixed 48 × 30 in ComfortEdge top fit my room and equipment?
The exact master offers one included 48 × 30 in top, not a frame with an adjustable tabletop. It fits that exact surface request, but a stricter room cap or larger minimum worktop excludes it.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the finished work surface lower to 25 inches?
The exact documentation gives a measured 25–50.5 inch working-surface range. A hard limit of 24 inches or less is not met.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a cable tray included or only compatible?
Vari lists the tray as compatible but separately purchased. A compatibility-only preference fits; a required included tray does not.
Explore this need in the finder →The Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge 48x30 is a complete, fixed-size electric desk for someone who wants a wider and deeper surface than the compact 40x26 ComfortEdge but does not need a 60- or 72-inch top. The exact U.S. master model is FD-ESDCE4830; the example assessed here is Black/Slate seller SKU 402274. Vari's selector returns thirteen top-and-frame finish combinations under that 48x30 family. They remain finish choices around one fixed work surface, not a frame-only purchase or a choice of different desktop dimensions.
The extra surface area has a real room cost
The included desktop measures 48 by 30 inches. Compared with the 40-by-26 model, that adds eight inches of width and four inches of depth: 1,440 square inches of surface rather than 1,040. The wider top creates more side-by-side room for a laptop, monitor and work materials, while the additional depth may help if a monitor stand, keyboard and writing space all need to fit front to back. It also occupies more room, so tape out the rectangle and check the chair path, door swing, wall distance and cable run before ordering. If you use a 48-inch width but need less depth, the distinct Vari Essential 48x24 is shallower; its different split top, motor arrangement and 27.5-inch minimum surface height make it a separate choice, not a size setting on this one.
The soft downward front contour is the defining ComfortEdge feature. Vari says it creates softer rest points for forearms, elbows and wrists. That is a design description, not independent ergonomic evidence. If you prefer a flat edge, want to mount a clamp near the front, or must fit a mount to a specified edge thickness, check the actual hardware against Vari's current dimensions; the reviewed sources do not establish a clamp limit.
Capacity and height are documented, with limits
The selected SKU's spec sheet, the exact product page and the linked 48x30 manual consistently state a 220-pound maximum. None specifies whether this is a static or dynamic rating, says what portion remains available after the desktop's own weight, or defines a usable equipment payload. If your purchase depends on a strict static-load threshold, this listing cannot satisfy it from the available wording alone; ask the manufacturer how it defines the number for the exact configuration.
The documented working-surface range is 25 to 50.5 inches, with four programmable height settings and a three-tier leg system. The spec sheet labels the top 1.25 inches thick and the product page describes its easy-clean surface as 3D laminate wrapped. Vari does not identify the top's inner substrate in the material reviewed; a wood-look label should not be treated as proof of solid wood. Height settings are useful only if they correspond to your actual seated and standing keyboard positions, so compare the listed surface range with your measured needs rather than assuming the desk is automatically suitable for every user.
Read the shared manual carefully before setup
The linked instruction booklet covers this 48x30 model alongside several other Vari electric desks. It calls for two people during assembly and shows the control box fitting into a center cavity in the metal frame with the two leg cables connected to M1 and M2. Follow the 48x30 diagrams rather than instructions for the compact 40x26, which has its own separate manual and different leg-to-frame assembly steps. The guide also explains four memory positions, calibration and adjustable height limits, anti-collision sensitivity, error codes and reset behavior. It warns to keep the moving desk clear of walls and obstacles, maintain at least one inch of clearance at the edge, and route cords so they cannot snag.
There is an internal movement-limit conflict in that booklet: its general safety warning limits travel to two minutes within a 20-minute period, while a troubleshooting passage says an H01 code can follow more than four continuous minutes (or a high room temperature). For conservative planning, follow the stricter general warning rather than treating the troubleshooting threshold as a normal duty cycle. The manual's anti-collision system and the product page's safety claims are manufacturer descriptions, not results of independent tests. A cable tray is compatible but sold separately, so a requirement that the tray be included in the same purchase excludes this desk.
Who it fits—and who should look elsewhere
This is a sensible candidate when you want one fixed 48-by-30 top, a front contour that appeals to you, four stored heights, and the documented 25-inch lower surface endpoint. It is less compelling if your room cannot spare the 30-inch depth, you need the broad span of a 60- or 72-inch desk, want a tray included, require a flat-square edge, or need an unambiguous static-load capacity. The selector's thirteen finishes provide visual options, including currently unavailable choices at the time checked; the saved selector records preserve those identities without implying current stock.
The black raised-position image is an exact selected-SKU Vari asset. The monitors, power strip, keyboard and surrounding room in that staged scene are not included-package evidence, and the source does not establish whether the scene is photographed, rendered or composited. Before you choose a finish, confirm the package and delivery details for the exact SKU. In the matcher, this plan fits a fixed 48-by-30 included top, a minimum surface height of 25 inches or lower, and compatibility with a separately purchased tray. It fails a requirement for a 24-inch minimum surface height, a smaller-than-30-inch depth cap, an included tray, or a confirmed static-load rating. Compare it with the 40x26 if floor space dominates; choose a larger top only when the extra reach and equipment spacing justify the room it consumes.

Paper, software and setup details
Desktop and configuration note
This is the complete fixed 48 × 30 in electric desk with one included contoured top, selected seller SKU 402274 Black/Slate. The exact master has 13 selector options, all documented under the same plan. Cable tray is compatible but not included. The ComfortEdge front shape is a preference to inspect, not a demonstrated ergonomic benefit; exact clamp-edge clearance is unknown.
Load-rating interpretation
The exact page, shared manual and SKU spec publish 220 lb. They do not label this static or dynamic or state remaining equipment payload after the desktop; keep both load basis fields unknown.
Operating and setup note
The shared exact 16-page manual includes ComfortEdge 48x30, standard Vari sizes and larger ComfortEdge sizes. It requires two people, shows center control-box placement and M1/M2 leg wiring, documents four memory positions and a 25–50.5 in work-surface range, adjustable limits, calibration and anti-collision sensitivity, and warns for one-inch clearance. Its general safety warning limits movement to two minutes within 20; an H01 troubleshooting passage says more than four continuous minutes (or high room temperature) can trigger the code. The manual is internally inconsistent; use the stricter general warning for conservative planning. The tray is compatible but separate.
