Material choice and model comparison
Vari Solid Wood 60x30 or 72x30: plan the top and material
Vari’s Solid Wood Electric Standing Desk 60x30 and 72x30 have the same stated 25-to-50½-inch working-surface range and four saved positions, but their top lengths and selected-finish stock differ. A material choice also changes how much care and climate caution belongs in your plan. Use the exact desk size and top material as separate decisions.
Start with the rectangle
The 60x30 top is 60 inches long and 30 inches deep; the 72x30 is 72 by 30 inches. Both are 1¼ inches thick and shown as one-piece desktops. Tape out the actual floor footprint, then add space for chair travel, doors, monitor-arm movement, cable slack and nearby storage. The 60-inch model is not automatically better in a small room if the 30-inch depth collides with a walkway. The longer model is not automatically more useful: it needs another foot of wall and room to approach the desk comfortably.
Both models give four programmable positions and the same stated surface range. Those similarities do not erase their different documents: the 72x30 product page and exact current specification sheet publish 200 pounds, while its linked 2023 manual lists 180 pounds. Use the lower manual number when planning until Vari explains the discrepancy, and do not treat either number as an independently verified payload or static rating. The 60x30 page, its 2026 instruction sheet, and the exact selected-size sheet state 200 pounds; that figure still has no static/dynamic label. If your desk choice depends on a specific equipment payload, ask the manufacturer about your exact top and frame.
Solid wood or a more predictable surface?
The solid-wood pages describe FSC-certified wood, a 1¼-inch top, a contoured front edge, natural variation in grain and color, and a scratch-resistant finish. These are manufacturer claims, not long-term wear testing. The natural variation is part of the choice: a sample or screen image cannot promise that a full desktop will have exactly the same grain. The two size families offer White Oak and Heritage Walnut top finishes with different frame colors. Use the selector SKU, not the generic product name, when checking a color combination.
Vari warns that wood responds to climate and that an extremely dry environment may cause cracking or splitting; it suggests laminate as a better fit where the air is arid or previous wood furniture has cracked. Its instruction sheets also warn about prolonged direct sunlight discoloring or distorting a surface. If those conditions describe the room, compare the standard laminate Electric Standing Desk or a separately listed ComfortEdge model. A laminate finish that resembles wood is not the same material and should not be described as solid wood. The standard 60x30 and 72x30 reviews also document their own load limits and cable connections.
Plan assembly and accessories before delivery
These complete desks include the matching top and powered frame, but the support documents call for two people to assemble and turn the completed desk upright. The 72x30 manual shows extension cables between its two leg leads and controller; the 60x30 drawing connects the leg leads directly to M1 and M2. Confirm the manual attached to the size you order, leave at least one inch of movement clearance and make sure every cable can travel through the full height range. Both product pages mention a cable tray, but describe it as an add-on. Preattached brackets only make a future tray easier to mount; they are not the tray.
Look at the exact package list rather than lifestyle photos. Manufacturer scenes show monitors, mounts, chairs or a cable tray, but those objects are not all included. The listed hooks, coaster and cable wraps are different from the desk tray. The top is a material choice as well as a support surface; avoid planning your monitor arm or accessory installation until you confirm its clamp compatibility with Vari.
Use the questions to screen only what matters
If solid wood is essential, choose that material filter and then compare both lengths against your room. A 60-inch maximum can keep the 60x30 and eliminate the 72x30; a 72-inch minimum does the reverse. A required surface lower than 25 inches rules out both documented solid-wood plans. A dedicated included-tray requirement also excludes them because the tray is sold separately. A request for a certified static load is not met merely by the page’s 200-pound capacity number. If you have no must-have material preference, leave it unrestricted and use the reviews to weigh surface care, dimensions and exact package contents.
